Situated to the south of Lake Constance, St. Gallen in Switzerland is renowned for its history. The epicenter is the Abbey Cathedral, which dates to the 8th century. Historically a city-state, the current cathedral dates to the 18th century and features a spectacular interior. As such, the Abbey Library building houses significant volumes of work, and the building itself is spectacular. Those curious as to the origins of the Abbey should check out the Lapidarium of the Library, which features a model of how it would have looked in the 8th century. The town also features several notable museums, such as the Kunstmuseum for fine art, the Natuurmuseum (natural history), and the Textilmuseum, as the region was known for its embroidery.
