The capital of Croatia, Zagreb, is known for its Austro-Hungarian architecture, featuring cobblestone streets and gas lamps. The Old Town developed as two hilltop settlements, Kaptol (the site of the clergy and the Zagreb Cathedral) and Gradec (the secular part, which features St. Mark's Square, home to the Croatian Parliament and Constitutional Court). The Lower Town was built in the 1800s and features wide avenues and neo-Classical buildings (this is the Austro-Hungarian influence, whereas the hilltops are medieval in origin). This area is where the luxury hotels and museums are located (specifically the Mimara Museum and the Archaeological Museum). It is here that restaurants, cafes, and nightlife are also located.
